Design

Several universal design initiatives are underway at Shinjuku Gyoen. This section provides information on the main barrier-free facilities and services, as well as barrier-free routes from the nearest station.

UD Map (Universal Design Information Map)

This map shows paths within Shinjuku Gyoen that may pose movement challenges, as well as the locations of slopes, steps, stairs, and other barriers. This map is recommended for visitors in wheelchairs.

*The gravel paving in the Formal Garden and the Japanese Traditional Garden is part of its landscape design. We are currently discussing ways to renovate the gardens to make them more accessible to visitors in wheelchairs while retaining this landscaping feature.

This shows barrier-free routes to Shinjuku Gyoen from the nearest major railway stations.

Restrooms

Shinjuku Gyoen provides public restrooms that are accessible to wheelchair users and which include multipurpose booths equipped with diaper-changing tables.

Free Wheelchair Rental

Wheelchairs are available for free at each entrance gate (Shinjuku Gate, Okido Gate, Sendagaya Gate) and service center.
If you need a wheelchair, please feel free to ask the staff.
