PLATFORM for REDESIGN 2020
Online Platform on Sustainable
and Resilient Recovery from COVID-19

About
We are now facing two crises: climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic. Enhancement of international solidarity is indispensable to overcome both crises. As governments take action to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, this is a critical moment for “building back better” — for redesigning our societies to become more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.
Building on the 11th Petersberg Climate Dialogue and the UNFCCC’s June Momentum for Climate Change, the Online Platform for Sustainable and Resilient Recovery from COVID-19 (“Platform for Redesign 2020”) showcases policies and actions taken by national governments toward a sustainable and resilient recovery from COVID-19. It also features inspiring messages from governments and non-state stakeholders, who remain committed to transformative change toward a sustainable future.
To launch this initiative, an Online Ministerial Meeting was held on 3 September 2020, attended by high-level officials of UNFCCC Parties and non-state stakeholders.
The Platform for Redesign 2020 is led by the Ministry of the Environment Japan, supported by the UNFCCC, and managed by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
Video statements by UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa, IGES President Kazuhiko Takeuchi, and other important stakeholders can be viewed here.
