Russia develops pilot carbon credits trading scheme for Sakhalin
Russian Government adopted (December 28, 2020) a roadmap for the pilot GHG emissions control scheme in the Sakhalin region. The region aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025 through new reporting rules for business, emissions reduction and carbon absorption projects and carbon credits trading system.
Design of the carbon credits scheme will be developed based on the evaluation of current emissions and absorption levels in the region and the analysis of best world practices. Proposed trading system could be linked with other systems in Russian regions and/or other countries.
